OMAHA, Neb. — The McCool Junction boys and Niobrara/Verdigre girls were crowned state track team champions for the first time in history on Saturday.

The day ended in dramatic fashion as McCool Junction and Axtell tied for the Class D team title based on the result of the final event of the evening, the 4x400 relay. McCool junction won the event while Axtell finished 6th, giving both teams 56 points.

The Chase County boys repeated as state champs in Class C with 65 total points, besting Arlington by 16.

The Kearney Catholic girls claimed the programs second title title in dominant fashion, posting 86.5 points. Bishop Neumann came in second with 60.

In Class D the Niobrara/Verdigre girls won the program's first state title with 52 total points, 6 better than Southern Valley.

New state and/or meet records:

4x100m relay:

The Kearney Catholic girls set a meet record in Class C with a time of 48.38. The relay team was made up of Margaret Haarberg, Payton Dzingle, Alyssa Onnen, and Hazel Haarberg. The previous meet record of 49.10 by Hastings St. Cecilia had stood since 1975.

The West Holt boys set a state and meet record in Class C with a time of 42.85. The relay team was made up of Brody Galyen, Lincoln Konrad, Andrew Rentschler and Luke Klabenes. The previous record of record of 42.99 by Hastings St. Cecilia had stood since 1993.

100m dash:

Hazel Haarberg set a Class C girls state and meet record with a time of 11.73, breaking her own state record of 11.95 and Ann Polak's (Aquinas Catholic) meet record of 12.01 which stood since 1982.

300m hurdles:

Easton Fries set a Class C boys state and meet record with a time of 37.99.

200m dash:

William Kuhlhanek of Overton set a Class D meet record with a time of 21.54. This was his 4th gold medal of the state competition. He also took gold in the 100m dash (10.54), 400m (48.09) and the long jump (22-03.50)

4x400 relay:

The West Holt girls set a Class C state and meet record with a time of 4:00.79. The relay team was made up of Pavan Larson, Taylor Walnofer, London Konrad and Ainsley Galyen.

The Chase County boys set a Class C state and meet record with a time of 3:21.17. The relay team was made up of Cole Clevenger, Tristan Jablonski, Thomas Reeves and Easton Fries.
