Offensive explosion leads #8 Wayne State past UMary
WAYNE - What a way for the Wildcats to win the weekend! The 8th ranked Wayne State volleyball team continued its momentum after beating Minot State on Friday night and rolled into a sweep on Saturday afternoon against the University of Mary (25-19, 25-11, 25-11).
Wayne State started the match strong, feeding the offense around Southwest Minnesota State transfer Brooklyn Kusler early. The 'Cats were able to take set 1 25-19, but not after s strong push by Charli Blackman and the Marauders.
Taya Beller and Channatee Robles got involved in the second set, thanks to perfect passing by Molly Romano. The defense also made strong plays in the back court, as Jordie Nekl and Brooke Pelz locked things down. Wayne State took the second set 25-11.
The Wildcats picked up where they left off in the third set, starting out on a 4-0 run and later running away with a 25-11 win to pick up the sweep over the UMary Marauders.
The 'Cats were led by Brooklyn Kusler, who tallied 12 kills on her 22nd birthday. Taya Beller brought in 10 and Channatee Robles finished with 9 kills and led Wayne State with 14 digs.
UMary saw a fantastic outing from Charli Blackman, tallying a game-high 14 kills in the loss.
The #8 Wildcats improve to 10-2 and look to move a little higher in the polls. UMary falls to 2-10.
