HARVARD, Neb. — Details are emerging about a shooting in Central Nebraska last month.

It happened on Sept. 18 at a house in Harvard. Police say in court documents that the victim had a bullet wound in his left leg. The man told an officer that he believed his ex-girlfriend had put a hit on him because of domestic incident earlier that night.

He told investigators that two men entered his home and threatened him. When he didn’t leave, one of the men shot him. The victim told investigators the intruders were 44-year-old Gerardo Garcia-Sanchez and 26-year-old Tristan Speake Smith, both of Hastings. An ambulance transported the victim to a Hastings hospital for treatment.

Authorities arrested both men. Speake Smith is out on bond and Garcia-Sanchez remains in jail. Both men face four criminal charges, including attempted first-degree murder and burglary.

Two days after the shooting, the victim’s ex-girlfriend filed for a domestic abuse protection order against him. She claimed that he repeatedly abused her, strangled her and held her hostage. A judge granted the protection order four days later.
