SIDNEY -- Kathy Nienhueser decided to submit another retirement in education, offering her seat on the board of education to a new voice.

In the December 9 board meeting, she was recognized for her service to the board and to education overall.

She decided not to seek re-election to the board.

Amber Talich, present at the Monday meeting, will be taking at seat at the board. She earned the most votes in the General Election, followed by Brad Kennedy.

Board President Mike Palmer rearranged the agenda  to move part of his presentation earlier in the meeting. He called the Board to the front of the table to present a plaque to Nienhueser.

"Your enthusiasm and love for students shows every day that you're here. And we really appreciate it, as does the school district," Palmer said.

He commended her for her time on the board and her career in education.

Nienhueser thanked the board for her time with them. She likewise commended the board for its commitment to education, and to the camaraderie practiced.

"Serving with you has been such a pleasure. However, I leave with heartfelt respect for every one of you, people that I now call friends," she said.

She said while she is stepping down, she is not walking away from education.

"It has been an honor, to serve on the board with everyone here. I am humbled. I am grateful, for your dedication, your expertise. As a warning, my passion for education will not allow me to just quietly fade into the night. I'll still haunt your halls, to see what new things you're coming up with, get my kid-fix, and continue to be the 'underwear fairy.' Thank you all, very much," Nienhueser said.
