BATTLE CREEK - The fans attending the Battle Creek Holiday Tournament title game received an extra Christmas present between the Falcons and the Bravettes after a thrilling overtime finish saw Elkhorn Valley secure the 39-37 victory.

Both teams came off wins from the previous night, with Elkhorn Valley beating Norfolk Catholic and Battle Creek taking down O'Neill St Mary's.

The first quarter saw lead changes between the Falcons and the Bravettes, but Elkhorn Valley clung to a 9-7 lead early.

Scoring continued to come at a premium in the second quarter, but the Falcon's JJ Black knocked down a late three pointer to give Elkhorn Valley a 16-10 lead at halftime.

The Falcons scored 5 points in 30 seconds to open up the 3rd quarter for a 21-10 lead, but the Bravettes chipped away at the lead with improved free throw shooting and a pair of fast breaks.

The Falcons held a 23-21 into the fourth quarter.

Battle Creek came back to take the lead, but Elkhorn Valley stayed in the fight. The Bravettes Sophie Humphrey buried a three to give Battle Creek a late lead, but Lily Hartl tied the game on the very next drive to force overtime, tied at 33

During overtime, the Falcons and Bravettes were tied at 36, when JJ Black drilled her third three pointer of the contest to give Elkhorn Valley another late lead. This time, it was enough to seal the deal as Battle Creek couldn't get the tying shot to fall, giving Elkhorn Valley a 39-37 win.

JJ Black led the Falcons with 18 points and 13 rebounds, along with 5 blocks. Lily Hartl scored 8 and Karlee Broberg added 7.

Battle Creek was led by Sami Wemhoff and Sophie Humphrey scoring 11 points each. Abbie Erickson tacked on 9 points.

Elkhorn Valley stays undefeated at 9-0, while Battle Creek slides to 6-2.
