Sutton scores 20, Omaha downs NAIA-member Mount Marty 81-51
OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Marquel Sutton had 20 points in Omaha's 81-51 victory against NAIA-member Mount Marty on Saturday night.
Sutton had eight rebounds and three steals for the Mavericks (6-9). Lance Waddles scored 19 points and added seven rebounds. Isaac Ondekane shot 3 of 4 from the field and 2 of 5 from the free-throw line to finish with eight points.
The Lancers were led in scoring by Tash Lunday, who finished with 14 points and seven rebounds. Mount Marty also got 14 points from Brandon Garcia. Rugby Ryken also recorded seven points.
Amzil's 14 lead New Mexico past Colorado State 76-68
FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) — Mustapha Amzil scored 14 points as New Mexico beat Colorado State 76-68 on Saturday.
Amzil added five rebounds for the Lobos (10-3, 2-0 Mountain West Conference). Donovan Dent added 14 points while going 7 of 16 from the field while they also had six assists. C.J. Noland had 11 points and finished 5 of 7 from the field.
Nique Clifford led the way for the Rams (7-6, 1-1) with 17 points, seven rebounds, six assists and three steals. Jaylen Crocker-Johnson added 13 points and nine rebounds for Colorado State. Kyan Evans also had 10 points.
New Mexico took the lead with 8:53 to go in the first half and did not relinquish it. The score was 41-25 at halftime, with Filip Borovicanin racking up 10 points. New Mexico was outscored by Colorado State in the second half by eight points, with Amzil scoring a team-high six points in the final half.
Both teams next play Tuesday. New Mexico visits Fresno State and Colorado State goes on the road to play San Jose State.
Wyoming secures 66-63 victory against Nevada
LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) — Obi Agbim had 18 points in Wyoming's 66-63 victory against Nevada on Saturday night.
Agbim went 7 of 12 from the field (4 for 7 from 3-point range) for the Cowboys (8-5, 1-1 Mountain West Conference). Touko Tainamo shot 3 of 6 from the field, including 2 for 3 from 3-point range, and went 7 for 8 from the line to add 15 points. Dontaie Allen finished 3 of 3 from 3-point range to finish with nine points.
Nick Davidson finished with 15 points, six rebounds and two blocks for the Wolf Pack (8-5, 0-2). Nevada also got 15 points and three steals from Kobe Sanders. Justin McBride finished with 11 points and three blocks.
Agbim put up seven points in the first half for Wyoming, who led 26-24 at the break. Wyoming used an 8-0 second-half run come back from a three-point deficit and take the lead at 41-36 with 12:17 remaining in the half before finishing off the victory. Tainamo scored 13 second-half points. Davidson missed a potential go-ahead 3-pointer with 7 seconds left and Nevada trailing 64-63. Tainamo made two free throws with 2 seconds left to finish off the win.
