HASTINGS, Neb. - A powerful winter storm is set to hit Nebraska early Wednesday morning, bringing blizzard-like conditions including snow and high winds to most of the state.

According to the national weather service out of Hastings, snow accumulation is expected to range from two to six inches in most areas with some spots possibly seeing more.

The storm may start with rain and thunderstorms, primarily between 10 p.m Tuesday and 3 a.m. Wednesday.

The blizzard conditions will start around 1 a.m. Wednesday and will intensify throughout the morning, especially between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. when wind gusts could exceed 60 miles per hour.

These winds are powerful enough to create whiteout conditions in open areas making travel difficult. 

A small risk of isolated thunderstorms and dime-sized hail is possible, especially in eastern Nebraska.

Snowfall is expected to continue until late morning Wednesday, and most areas should expect at least two inches with the possibility of up to six inches.

Some regions could see temporary road closures, particularly along Interstate 80 and Highway 81, and there is also a risk of power outages due to the snow and strong winds.
