CHADRON, Neb. –  Ropers had the most success among Chadron State College contestants at the Gillette College rodeo last weekend.  The rodeo was the first of five in the Central Rocky Mountain Region this spring.

CSC's Pepper Rhyne of Craig, Colorado, and Sid Miller of Merna, Nebraska, each placed in tie down roping. Rhyne roped and tied his calves in 9.4 and 10.6 seconds to claim fourth place, while Miller completed each of his runs in 10.3 seconds to finish fifth. In addition, Jake Chasek of Mitchell, Nebraska was among the 10 tie down ropers to advance to the finals after finishing the long go-round in 10.2 seconds.

Chasek and Seth Glass of Central City, Nebraska were second in the first go-round of team roping in 7.2 seconds. They did not connect with both loops in the finals, but they placed fourth in the standings because all except three of the remaining teams in the finals also took a "no-time" Sunday and their first-round time was the fastest in that group.

Bareback riders Tanner Olson of Gordon and Cinch Kiger of Overton rode both of their barebacks at Gillette. Both finished with 134 points, placing them in a tie for seventh in the standings.

Mary Gibson of Havre, Montana, was the only CSC cowgirl to make it to the finals in a women's event after she completed the first go-round of goat tying in 7.8 seconds.

The next rodeo in the region will be at Eastern Wyoming College in Torrington on March 28-30.
