Northern Garden County under a severe thunderstorm warning

GARDEN COUNTY, Neb. — The National Weather Service in North Platte issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning Sunday afternoon for portions of southwestern Cherry County, western Grant County, northern Garden County, and southeastern Sheridan County.
The warning is in effect until 5:30 p.m.
At 4:46 p.m., a severe thunderstorm was located about eight miles north of Crescent Lake National Wildlife Refuge, or 30 miles north of Oshkosh, moving northeast at 35 mph. Radar indicated the storm could produce hail up to two inches in diameter and wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour.
The storm may cause injuries to people and animals outdoors, along with significant hail damage to roofs, siding, windows, and vehicles. Wind damage to roofs, siding and trees is also expected.
Locations in the storm's path include Ellsworth, Hyannis, Ashby, Crescent Lake National Wildlife Refuge, and several nearby lakes, including Watson Lake, Patterson Lake and Spring Valley Lake. Portions of Highway 2 between mile markers 114 and 146 and Highway 61 between mile markers 142 and 160 are also affected.
The National Weather Service advises residents to move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building.
A Tornado Watch remains in effect for the region until 11 p.m.
